Egusi Peppersoup (ovwo ovwo)

Egusi peppersoup is a traditional dish of the Urhobos in Delta State, Nigeria.

It’s made from toasted melon, locally sourced spices and seasonings and proteins of one’s preference ( mine is snails, shrimps and catfish).

Egusi peppersoup is not just tasty but very interesting too. This is due to the combination of the flavours.

  1. Toast the melon (egusi)

  2. After allowing it to cool, turn into a blender, add some water and blend.
  3. Season your snails with pepper, salt and seasoning cubes
  4. Add water to the seasoned snails. Once it starts boiling, add your local peppersoup spice, seasoning cubes and salt (adjust to taste). Add more pepper.
  5. Note: No oil inn this meal
