Akara

Akara is one of Nigerians breakfast. It’s usually eaten with bread, custard or Pap.

  1. 1. Soak your beans for an hour
  2. 2. Wash your beans with your hands to take off the skin
  3. 3. When the beans skin is completely out, rinse it very well and transfer it into a bowl
  4. 4. Wash your tomatoes, pepper and onion(cut onion into small pieces) and put them in the same bowl with the clean beans
  5. 5. You can blend with your blender using little amount of water so the beans mixture will be thick when completely blended
  6. 6. Pour the beans mixture into a bowl and add salt to taste then stir it
  7. 7. Place a pot or deep frying pan on fire, pour vegetable oil into it and let it get hot. Put 2 slices of onion in the oil before frying the beans mixture
  8. 8. Use a deep curve spoon to scoop the mixture into the oil to fry. You can put about 3 scoop for a start in different places inside the hot oil to form a ball
  9. 9. Fry till it’s little brown and turn the other side to fry. When both are light brown, remove the akara from the oil and your akara is ready
  10. 10. Repeat the same steps to fry the remaining mixture
